Family accommodation
We understand that choosing the perfect accommodation for your family is one of the most important factors in creating your family holiday. This has never been more true than in Africa. Due to the amount of destinations and accommodations it is impossible to name all of them but rest assured we have something that will perfectly meet the needs of you and your family.
Africa accommodation is unique and very different from most places in the world. Many of the hotels and lodges are small family run businesses that will accommodate and personalise their properties to accommodate children.
Each destination is extremely different in Africa and cater for different types, sizes and ages of families – there are a few suggestions we would like to make when thinking about your African family holiday.
Botswana and Namibia
These destinations are fantastic for families with older children. Due to the remote location and expense of many of the properties we would suggest that it could be too much for a young child to cope with on their first trip to Africa. Apart from peace and relaxation and fantastic game viewing there are very few, if any facilities specifically for children.
South Africa
This is an extremely popular choice for families due to the fact that it is non-malarial wanting a safari, a exploration, a city break or even a combination of all three! South Africa has many different accommodations to choose from but there are a few that stand out in terms of fantastic family accommodation:
Cape Grace, The Radisson and the Table Bay – Cape Town: These hotels offer brilliant family accommodation right in the heart of Cape Town. The hotels have a choice of rooms and suites that can accommodate up to 2 adults and 4 children (under 12). Although there is no children’s club at these properties they have numerous facilities especially for children.
Lalibela and Savannah: These lodges are more suitable for children than many of the others as they can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children (under 12) in one room. Lalibela also offers fantastic children’s facilities and a children’s programme. Whilst Lalibela accepts children of all ages Savannah only accommodates children over the age of 8. In hindsight we find that children much younger than this do not enjoy the experience as much as older children which might be something to take into consideration when planning your trip to Africa.
Kenya
Think of safari and you'll probably see images of Kenya in your mind - wildebeest swarming over dry savannah, tall and ornately decorated Maasai tribesmen and big cats stalking antelope and zebra. Although you will need to be vaccinated against Malaria this is a fantastic choice for a family safari.
Samburu Interpids: We would suggest that this is more suitable for children over the age of 8 as it is tented accommodation that will be located close to each other but not right next door. The acclaimed Adventurers' Club here offers a uniquely educational safari for children of all ages, under the expert guidance of Kenya's most famous Samburu guide, Sammy Leseita.
These are just some of the accommodations for families in Africa, we would suggest calling our reservations team who can talk you through more of the accommodation we can offer and work with you to put together the perfect itinerary for your family.
A balance of Nature and Nurture
Ulusaba Game Reserve is Sir Richard Branson's private game reserve set in the heart of the game rich Sabi Sands. There's two luxury lodges on the reserve - Safari Lodge and Rock Lodge. Both offer superb facilities, great game viewing, luxurious accommodation and for luxury family holidays in South Africa Rock Lodge accepts children of all ages and has a dedicated kids safari programme.
Over 42 years of superb safari
MalaMala is the Grande Dame of safari lodges in the Sabi Sands Reserve having been open for more than 42 years. It benefits from having the largest track of private land in the reserve and an impressive 12 mile stretch of unfenced border with the Kruger National Park. Game viewing is therefore fantastic and guests have a choice of three lodges - MalaMala Main Camp, Sable Camp or Rattrays on MalaMala. For family safaris MalaMala Main camp accepts children of all ages.
Great value first time safari
Lalibela Game Reserve offers a great value, first time South Africa safari experience in the malaria free Eastern Cape. The reserve itself covers 18500 acres of diverse habitat and gives guests the chance to see the big 5. The three individual camps on the reserve - Mark's Camp, Lentaba Lodge and Tree Tops all offer warm and friendly service. Marks Camp offers superb family accommodation which includes family rooms and a family suite.
