The National Marine Aquarium selected Shandrani Resort & Spa in Mauritius to help it develop an international education programme and award scheme, which it hopes will help resorts around the world better protect the marine environments their guests enjoy whilst on holiday.
The team from the Plymouth-based National Marine Aquarium has developed a programme of accredited training courses and awards, which are designed to help hoteliers engage with – and protect – marine conservation sites. The programme will enable staff working at hotels across the world to learn about protecting endangered coral reefs, and help to educate fellow staff, and visitors about how best to help conserve coral, and at the same time protecting their own offerings as a resort.
As a charity dedicated to conservation, education and research, the National Marine Aquarium welcomed the opportunity to engage people with the marine environment through a different avenue. Working with Shandrani – a perfect choice with its location overlooking Blue Bay Marine Park – the Aquarium has now developed the Conservation Through Tourism Award, offering hotels and resorts to work towards a more sustainable future.
The award has three levels; bronze, silver and gold. The bronze award is an initial course designed to raise awareness of corals, the importance of the ecosystem, and to develop the tools to allow them to effectively communicate with visitors in an engaging and interesting way. The six-day course, which is delivered by members of the National Marine Aquarium team to staff at the resort, includes practical hands-on teaching and mentoring, and is designed to create conservation ambassadors from the staff.
The silver and gold awards will offer the opportunity to further develop the training programme, including minimising the resort’s impact on the marine environment, increasing engagement with visitors and becoming involved with reef monitoring, with the ultimate aim of staff and visitors making active improvements to their local lagoons and reef ecosystems. This daily rate includes 1 bottle of water per person, fresh fruit slices/skewers served twice per day and afternoon pastries.
4. Dinarobin Hotel (and Paradis) guests can enjoy free golf on the Paradis Golf Course between 01 May and 30 September 2013. The course is looking in tip top condition following the installation of its second desalination plant, allowing the green keepers to keep the course well watered through the year.
5. Massage on the beach anybody? Dinarobin have built a gazebo on the beach from which it will offer guests a choice of massage options. If you are after a relaxing massage with an Indian Ocean view, Dinarobin is the place to stay.

Tom Aikens was the youngest chef ever to be awarded two Michelin stars, and we are delighted he will be with us to cook up a tropical storm at the prestigious Royal Palm in Mauritius from 25th – 27th March 2013.
For three days only, Tom will be presenting his innovative and creative style of modern French cookery that has been made famous at his Michelin starred Tom Aikens Restaurant in London. Guests will be able to partake in a series of one-off Master Classes and sit down to private four-course dinners cooked by the celebrity chef, over the three nights.
Dedicated to serving ethically sourced, seasonal ingredients of the highest quality, Tom will be working with the Royal Palm and the island’s local suppliers to re-craft his acclaimed signature dishes and give them a Mauritian-inspired twist.
The exclusive event will conclude with champagne on the beach and a demonstration of Mauritian cuisine hosted by both Tom Aikens and Royal Palm’s award-winning French chef, Michel de Matteis. Here, guests will discover the fusion of flavours that createsMauritius’ complex gastronomy, a melting pot of Indian, Creole, Chinese, European influences that trace the island’s heritage.

I am just back from Sainte Anne Resort & Spa in the Seychelles, the UK weather is certainly a shock to the system after the warmth of the Seychelles. Talking about the weather it is one of the Seychelles selling points with the days staying in the high 20’s year round!
