Beachcomber hotels are tennis Pros’ first choice when staying in Mauritius

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

R NadalTennis stars seeking some rest and relaxation in Mauritius have made Beachcomber hotels their first choice for a holiday in the sun. During October and November 2008 a plethora of top tennis names featured on the guest lists of Le Mauricia, Paradis, Dinarobin and Royal Palm. And it’s not surprising! Not only is the Beachcomber brand the most visible in Mauritius but the hotel group is also the official partner of HEAD, world leader in the technology and design of sporting equipment. HEAD supplies the nine hotels in the Beachcomber group with their tennis equipment. Part of the agreement also involves the creation of the “Beachcomber HEAD Tennis Academies”, state-of-art tennis training centres, in Mauritius, Seychelles and ultimately at the new Royal Palm in Marrakech. As a result of this partnership, players in the HEAD PRO TEAM are regularly spotted at one of the group’s hotels, often delighting guests with tennis demonstrations.

The most recent visit was that of French Tennis Player Gilles Simon in November who initially stayed at Paradis before moving to Le Mauricia, another Beachcomber hotel, to play an exhibition match.

Other French players including Paul-Henri Mathieu (ATP rank 32) and Jeremy Chardy (ATP rank 73) have also stayed at Paradis at the beginning of November.

The elegant 5-star resort Paradis Hotel & Golf Club has earned an excellent reputation with international athletes thanks to its extensive range of land and water sports, which includes a spectacular 18-hole golf course built on the resort’s premises.

Players of the HEAD PRO TEAM, including the Swiss national Stanislas Wawrinka and French player Marc Gicquel chose the tranquil atmosphere and setting of the Dinarobin Hotel Golf & Spa, which shares all the facilities of sister hotel Paradis on the spectacular Le Morne Peninsula.

More recently, Raphaël Nadal, the world number one tennis player, spent a few days at the Royal Palm, the most prestigious address in the Indian Ocean and flagship property of the Beachcomber group in Mauritius. These are just some of the stars you may come across during your stay at one of Beachcomber’s hotels.

Beachcomber has unveiled a new Wellness Centre at its Le Mauricia hotel in Mauritius. Find out more.

It had been 2 years since I had last visited Le Mauricia…

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

I was aware that there had been many changes made to the hotel and was very keen to experience them for myself.

The first pleasant surprise was the improvement’s made to the rooms. Le Mauricia - Standard Room

I was given a Standard Room and found that they have been given a contemporary feel with light woods throughout and designer fittings in the bathroom.  Use of bright colours in the soft furnishings reminded me that I was in Mauritius.

The Superior Rooms have received the largest alterations with a private garden added large enough for a sun lounger and table with chairs.

For clients looking for something special the new Suites are a stunning addition.  Built onto the roof of the hotel there are great views over the bay and back towards Grand Baie.  The plunge pool on your private decking is a perfect spot from which to enjoy a glass of wine or champagne.

Families are taken care of with the Family Apartments.   Separate bedrooms and bathrooms for the parents and up to three children, plus an enclosed rear garden with sand allow the children to play safely.  The Family Apartments are in two different locations with my preference being towards the hotel entrance where there is a small second swimming pool.

The addition of a beautiful new Moroccan styled Wellness Centre gives Le Mauricia the edge over other hotels in its class.  Located near to the fitness centre and tennis courts, this purpose built facility has 10 treatment rooms set around a central pool.  In only wish I had time to enjoy a massage, but my schedule was too full.

That evening we enjoyed a buffet dinner at Les Quais.  There was plenty of choice and the food was of a very good standard.   We then moved onto the bar where a band was playing and in Mauritian terms there was quite a lively atmosphere which continued down to the hotel’s nightclub La Rhumerie.
