Mauritius Holiday Information

Are you trying to find out information about Mauritius?

We have put together some information we feel should answer all your questions and more so you don’t have to browse through endless web pages trying to find the information you need.

When is the best time to have a Mauritius Holiday?

In all honesty there is no ‘best’ time to take your Mauritius holiday due to the islands sub tropical climate, meaning it is warm all year round. We find that the busiest times are Christmas and New Year, Easter and the school holidays – it might be worth you booking early if you are looking at travelling over these periods especially at Christmas and Easter or you may find yourself disappointed.

What makes Mauritius a good all year round destination?

There are so many reasons why a Mauritius holiday is a great choice for you.

  • The climate is ideal with average temperatures rarely dropping below 24 degrees Celsius.
  • Mauritius does have rainfall year round, but it tends to fall in short, sharp showers.
  • The sea temperature also remains warm enough to swim in throughout the year.

Do you already have a date in mind for your Mauritius holiday but want to know more about the climate over that season?

We can give you an idea based on previous years however, with worldwide weather becoming more erratic and harder to predict we cannot be held responsible for a disruption to your holiday due to bad weather. The most important thing to bear in mind is that Mauritius is a year round destination thanks to its sub tropical climate with average temperatures rarely dropping below 24 degrees Celsius.  Mauritius does have rainfall year round, but it tends to fall in short, sharp showers.  The sea temperature also remains warm enough to swim in throughout the year.

  • January to April - This is the hottest and most humid time in Mauritius. It does rain at this time of the year but rainfall tends to be in heavy but short lived showers. Mauritius occasionally experiences the tail winds from anti-cyclones during this time (mainly during February), which generally last no more than 2 or 3 days. Once an anti-cyclone has passed the result is typically warmer and less humid conditions.
  • May to August - These are the ‘cooler' months in Mauritius, although the day time temperatures remain warm at around 25 degrees Celsius on average. The weather is ideal for children or those with fair skin.
  • September to December - Traditionally a great time to visit Mauritius, the temperatures are warmer, and humidity is not at its peak. Mauritius is a fantastic fusion of many different cultures and religions and most of the religious ceremonies are celebrated during this period, although the hotels put a particular emphasis on Christmas and the western New Year.

What is the Check in and Check out times at the hotels?

The official check in given by the hotels is 3pm. It is not always possible to have your room ready immediately on arrival, although they are very good and where possible will get you into your rooms as quickly as possible so you can start enjoying your holiday. A good tip from us (not that we have done this before) is to have your swimwear handy when you arrive especially if it is early morning so you can relax by the pool or on the beach whilst you are waiting – each hotel has somewhere for you to change, freshen up and store your luggage while you wait. The official check out time is 11am however if you would like to keep your room until departure this can be arranged at an addtional fee.
