Why choose a Wedding Abroad?
Beachcomber’s complete guide to getting married abroad
Just imagine saying your vows on a white sandy beach with fantastic views of the Indian Ocean. Perhaps you are dreaming of getting married at the top of Table Mountain or in a hot air balloon high above the Masaai Mara or on a secluded island in the Seychelles?
With so many fantastic destinations, locations and ways of getting married abroad it is no wonder that this is becoming more and more popular every year! The big questions for most couples are why get married abroad and is it right for us? So we will do our best to help you answer those questions and get you on your way to choosing the right destination and location for your dream wedding abroad.
Why get married abroad?
We would suggest looking at the pro’s and con’s of getting married abroad and having a traditional wedding in the UK.
Getting Married Abroad - the Pro’s:
- COST: One of the biggest pro's about getting married abroad is the cost! With the average wedding in the UK costing over £16,000 and 7 night Mauritius packages starting from just £1335 per person including the wedding fee, a wedding abroad is a much cheaper option!
- LOCATION: With generally more predictable weather and a choice of locations from small intimate chapels on a remote island in the Seychelles to a beach wedding overlooking Grande Baie or a wedding in the African bush at sunset you will find much more choice than a UK wedding venue.
- WEDDING PLANNER: Once booked you have the services of our dedicated reservations team here in the UK who are on hand to answer any of your queries about your special day and a wedding planner in resort who will help you organise every part of your day from buttonholes to music and much more and with our guarantee of only one wedding a day you will have all the attention focused on your special day.
- GUESTS: If you are dreaming of a romantic wedding with no one else but the two of you this is a great choice as you could always have a celebration here in the UK when you get back. If you wanted to have lots of guests there are various special offers in some of our destinations to ensure they get the best deals going and it is acceptable for the guests to pay for themselves!
- STRESS FREE: Booking through Beachcomber ensures that you have a stress free lead up to your wedding! There will be no panicking about transport, table plans, accommodation for you and your guests – you can have as much or as little involvement as you want!
Getting Married Abroad - the Con’s:
- GUESTS: Friends and family may not be able to afford the cost of travelling to your wedding however we have some great wedding party discounts to help as much as we can!!
- INVITES: Some people may be upset if they are not invited to your wedding abroad – however you could always have a celebration when you get home to make sure no one is left out.
- WITNESSES: If you choose to get married alone you will have to have two witnesses. We find that many of our wedding couples meet people in resort and ask them to be their witnesses, if not we will provide two witnesses for you.
- WEATHER: Even if you head to a destination with a warm climate you cannot guarantee the weather. However at our Beachcomber hotels and many others if there is availability they will move your wedding if you would like or they will set up a location under cover to ensure your special day is everything you dreamed of!
Is it right for us?
In all honesty this is a hard question to answer. Studies have shown that at least 60% of couples considered getting married abroad at least once when choosing how they will get married.
In our experience weddings abroad are popular with couples who for whatever reason do not want a big fuss, couples that enjoy travelling in general, couples who are not getting married for the first time, couples that have very small or very large families and couples that have travelled to a destination and have very fond memories or even couples that got engaged abroad.
Some people want to get married abroad because they want to escape a big family wedding, some simply cannot justify they expense of a UK wedding and some just dream of getting married in a specific location.
If you are worried about disappointing family members and friends there are ways around it. You could hold a reception or blessing on your return and get a wedding video showing your special day made for them…
Decisions, Decisions, Decisions....
If you think getting married abroad is right for you then take a more detailed look at our wedding destinations where you find more information about legalities, locations and accommodation – there is even a wedding planner to help you in the run up to your dream wedding!
